Friday Fun Farm Facts--Maple Syrup

The production of pure maple syrup is the oldest agricultural enterprise in the United States.

Forty gallons of maple sap are required to make one gallon of syrup.

Michigan ranks fifth in maple syrup production.

Only about 1% of Michigan's maple forest resource is used for syrup production.

Maple syrup is classified as one of nature's most healthful foods.

Maple syrup is one of the few agriculture crops in which demand exceeds supply.

  1. And it's so yummy! When I was a child, my folks had a small sugar bush on our farm and we gathered the sap with a team of Belgian horses. My mom and grandpa cooked over wood and my mom made the most amazing maple syrup recipes. I really was blessed to have those experiences!

  2. Love me some maple syrup! I like to get the Grade B: it's darker, and has an even more intense flavor.
